Rewrite a lyric without losing your voice
A focused revision method for keeping personal meaning while improving clarity, rhythm and singability.

Ovar Field Notes · Songwriting
When a lyric feels unfinished, it can be tempting to replace everything. Often the better move is to protect the line that feels most honest and revise the words around it. Ovar can help you compare possibilities while you remain the editor.
Mark what must stay
Identify the phrase, image or local expression that makes the lyric yours. Explain why it matters. Ask for changes to a specific problem: a crowded line, a weak transition or a chorus that explains too much.
Sing the alternatives
A line can look elegant on a screen and still resist the melody. Test stress, breath and vowel sounds. Keep revisions that work in performance, even if they are less elaborate on paper.
Try this with Ovar
Review this verse for natural phrasing. Preserve my central image and the final line. Suggest three alternatives only for lines that are difficult to sing, and explain the trade-offs.
Take it into your next session
Make a recording of the revised verse before choosing the final version. Your delivery is a better guide than the number of clever phrases on the page.
